CACOPHONEUSES: The Myth of Lorelei CD HANDS
Another band that has a name that’s a real mouthful to get your tongue around and another relative newcomer to the distorted beat community. Cacophoneuses start off the proceedings with a healthy dose of ambient and power electronics, but quickly head into steady powernoise territory with the competent ‘You Have Bewitched Me’; and from here on in the format remains pretty much the same throughout.
Cacophoneuses are pretty much your standard meat and veg addition to the genre. Everything is well done and they utilise the monotony effectively, with a degree of hypnosis that that is essential to any release of this nature. However, there really isn’t anything on the album to signify that they could match or even come close to what has been released before by their peers.
I can imagine that a lot of tracks on ‘The Myth of Lorelei’ would go down well in a live environment, or indeed in the small hours of your local Industrial club. There are 4/4 beats aplenty to be lapped up and keep a steady sway to, whilst chewing your own face off; but album wise these guys are merely making up the numbers. If this had come a few years ago I would have been going crazy over this release, but now it pales in significance compared to some of their elder Hands relatives.
